Why are the buildings always locked?

To protect the collection of objects housed inside as well as the historical structure itself, Palmetto Historical Park buildings are kept locked. Visitors can view these buildings through free Guided Tours which occur at 2pm every day that we are open. During Special Events, Park buildings are often staffed by volunteers so that visitors can wander through at their leisure.

Will there be someone to give me a tour?

Free guided tours are offered at 2:00pm every day that the park is open. Learn more about our tours here.

Will tours still be held if it is raining?

To ensure the safety and well-being of our visitors and staff, and to preserve our historical buildings, tours will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.

Do you offer tours for large groups?

If bringing more than 5 people, please contact us to schedule. Learn more about our tours here.

How do I book a field trip?

We start booking field trips for the school year at 8am on the day that Manatee County teachers go back to school. Leave a message and we will return calls and schedule trips in the order that messages are received. They book up quickly, so don’t wait to call! For more information about our school program Click Here.

When is the walking tour of Palmetto’s Historic District?

The guided walking tour is offered two days a year, during Manatee County’s Heritage Days in March. Tours are free, but online registration is necessary. Specific dates and registration instructions will be posted on this website as soon as they are available. These tours book fast, so keep an eye on our social media and don’t wait to book your spot!

We have also created Virtual Walking Tours of Historic Downtown Palmetto and Palmetto Historical Park, which are available to enjoy at your leisure any day of the week!
